Teaching Approach
My courses invite students to grapple with challenging questions through competing and multidisciplinary perspectives, rather than simply encounter them through lecture. My undergraduate teaching combines interactive lectures with role-playing simulations, data analysis workshops, and other forms of active learning.
With graduate students and senior honors students, I place particular emphasis on the research process, from developing a research question to designing and carrying out original research, including field research. My teaching at Syracuse has been recognized with a Teaching Recognition Award from the Middle Eastern Studies Program (2024) and an Excellence in Teaching Award from the International Relations Program (2022).
